Too High a Price

Wherever you stand on animals, I think we can agree that making their lives hell is too high a price for cheap meat.
(paraphrased from a Rolling Stone article)

What price are we willing to pay? What price are you children willing to pay?

Thoughts?

Bland Beans??

How to make plain beans and grains taste amazing. It took me a lot of trial and error to find the best way to cook beans. But adding some spices into the cooking water is a good idea.

Here are some good tips.

How to Wreck an Image

Let's get controversial again. I was reading that many people have an objection to PETA because they euthanize a lot of animals. So I went looking for answers.
The first thing I found was in the movie Specism, which I highly recommend. There is a business (I forget what it is called) that goes around bad mouthing activist organizations. Here is how it works. Someone doesn't like the message an activist organization is putting out, it hurts their bottom line, let's say animal abuse in meat production or mink farming. Rather than address the issue they hire a third party.
It is the job of this party to blacken the name of the activist assn any way they can. Then anyone can question the ethics and guiding principles of such an organization, such as PETA.
I found this on it too:
I find this all compelling. Instead of dealing with abuse issues it is much starter to hurt the accuser by tarnishing their image. I must remember this, brilliant and horrible idea.

This year, at the close of business on December 31st, and by no later than midnight on January 31st of 2014, Virginia animal shelters will be required by the state to prepare their closing...

Pureed Sweet Potato Soup

Pureed Spicy Sweet Potato with Chickpeas

Well this ticks all the boxes:

low saturated fat
completely vegan
healthy
easy to make
filling

I tried it and I have to say it is fabulous. I pureed some of the chickpeas with the soup and it was so thick that I added a bit of almond milk. Definitely a keeper. It comes from Forks Over Knives so I knew I would like it and was created by the wonderful cook, Dreena Burton.

Try it and let me know how you like it.

What is This All About

Welcome to my blog.

This is about the journey from being an ordinary middle aged woman, to becoming a middle aged woman with a mission:

to become a healthy vegan and to share what I discover.

Sometimes people might prefer not to know what I learn and uncover, but out of sight, out of mind is just not a responsible way to live.

So I have been bumbling around for some time - honing a good diet, finding recipes, and uncovering facts about veganism. I am pretty keen and hope you might like to come along for the ride.
